All statistics and metrics shown in Business Intelligence reports are, by default, calculated from all published applications assigned to or prosecuted by the assignee or firm whose report you're viewing, unless any filters are applied. When filters are applied, the statistics and metrics will be calculated using only published applications filed that match your filter criteria.

The key metrics table shows: 

  • Filed: The number of applications filed overall by the selected firm or assignee (top line) and the  number of those applications filed by or on behalf of a particular firm or assignee; 
  • Disposed: The number of allowed or abandoned applications; 
  • Allowance Rate: The percentage of disposed applications that received a notice of allowance; 
  • Months to Disposition: The average number of months between an application's filing date and disposition date; 
  • Office Actions: The average number of office actions issued in prosecutions for allowed applications (includes final/non-final rejections, restriction or election requirements, and ex parte Quayle actions); 
  • Ind. Claims Change: The average number of independent claims gained or lost from an application's publication to allowance; and
  • Dep. Claims Change: The average number of dependent claims gained or lost form an application's publication to allowance.

Division of Work by Firm/Assignee
The total number of applications filed year-over-year by the selected firm or assignee and the number of those applications filed by or on behalf of any added firms/assignees (added in the key metrics table by clicking the "+" signs). This can be shown as either a raw number or as a percentage.

Allowance Rates by Disposition Year
The allowance rate for your selected firm or assignee compared to the allowance rates for any added firms/assignees by disposition year. 

Office Actions by Disposition Year
The average number of office actions to allowance for applications for your selected firm or assignee compared to any added firms/assignees by disposition year.

Months to Disposition
The average number of months between filing and allowance or abandonment for your selected firm or assignee compared to any added firms/assignees by disposition year.

Independent Claims Change by Disposition Year
The average difference between the number of independent claims at publishing and the number of independent claims at allowance for applications for your selected firm or assignee compared to any added firms/assignees by disposition year.

Dependent Claims Change by Disposition Year
The average difference between the number of dependent claims at publishing and the number of dependent claims at allowance for applications for your selected firm or assignee compared to any added firms/assignees by disposition year.

Change in Words per Independent Claim by Disposition Year
The average change in the number of words per independent claim at publishing and the average number of words per independent claim at allowance for applications for your selected firm or assignee compared to any added firms/assignees by disposition year.

Change in Words per Dependent Claim by Disposition Year
The average change in the number of words per dependent claim at publishing and the average number of words per dependent claim at allowance for applications for your selected firm or assignee compared to any added firms/assignees by disposition year.

Extensions by Rejection Year
The number of requests for extension of time filed in prosecutions for applications for your selected firm or assignee compared to any added firms/assignees by rejection year.  This can be shown as either a raw number or as a percentage of the rejections received in a given year.

Average Applicant Response Time
The average number of months between a rejection being issued and a response being filed for applications for your selected firm or assignee compared to any added firms/assignees by rejection year. 

Rejection Bases Count by Disposition Year
The number of rejections for your firm or assignee's applications that cited a particular rejection basis by rejection year.

Tech Center by Filing Year
The number of applications filed by your selected firm or assignee that were assigned to each tech center by year.  This can be shown as either a raw number or a percentage of total applications filed.
